Love – Does it Exist???
I’m just at a loss. People ask me all the time, “why don’t you have a boyfriend?”. Umm…because I can’t find a guy that is willing to put into a relationship the same type of effort as me. Dating is horrible these days. Read my “Horrors of Dating” blog for more thoughts on this subject.
I won’t lie, my list of requirements is pretty long and I’m picky. But, I’m in my 40s. I don’t really want to waste time anymore with men that aren’t right for me. I know what I want, and I wont give up until I find it.
My struggle is that I had the best example of love! My role models in so many aspects, including this one, are my parents. They dated for 7 years before getting married. And then, they were married for 48 years by the time my mom passed away. They loved each other so freaking much! They did everything together. They struggled together, they worked hard together, they ran a business together. And mostly, they just loved being together! Like EVERY day. My mom couldn’t wait to have dinner with my dad every day. When either of them took separate trips, the other missed them so much! They still kissed, smooched, and cuddled every day. I’m not even exaggerating. And to top it off, when my mom started to get sicker and sicker, my dad did EVERYTHING for her and treated her like a princess all the way to her last day. I’m crying just writing this. They had so much love for each other, it fills my heart with love just thinking about it. I will never have the love they had, or at least never for as long as they did.
Maybe I want it way too much. I wouldn’t say I’m desperate for love. I don’t need someone. I want someone. I want to share my life with someone. I want to grow old with someone.
I want a partner to go through life with. One that is willing to put into a relationship the same type of love, passion, and devotion as I’m willing to.
So, does love exist? I don’t know. I’ve been in love before, and I’m hopeful that I’ll find it again, but I’m starting to struggle with really believing it anymore. I still have a glimmer of hope I guess.
